Important information about your treatment

Treatment

Although most dental treatments occur with a positive outcome and a delighted patient, understanding of the risks involved for any procedure plays a central role in deciding what is right for you. No treatment outcome can be absolutely guaranteed as the human body and its ability to heal or experience symptoms is unique to all of us. If complications do occur, then all will reasonably be done to improve, manage and rectify the situation.

Being comfortable with the choices you make and owning those decisions is of the utmost importance when it comes to deciding on the care you wish to receive. I strive to ensure that you understand and consent to the benefits and risks involved with a procedure. If you are ever unsure or concerned at any point, then just ask, however small that concern may seem. Some treatments are more complex and involved than others and you may need to take your time to consider your options or do further research into the treatment recommended. Again, I am here to help and guide you, so just ask away.

Concerns and Second Opinions

If you are ever concerned about the care you have received, please do not be anxious to bring these up at any point in the treatment process. Feedback is welcome and helps ensure that you receive excellent and quality assured care. Your treatment will never be adversely effected by bringing to attention any concerns you may have. If you do wish to speak to an independent person, the practice manager will be more than happy to discuss these with you. Dental treatment can be daunting and many options might be offered to you. The freedom to seek a second opinion is welcomed and recommendations to an appropriate specialist colleague can be made for further advice, clarification or treatment.

Shared Care

Multi-disciplinary care is common within dentistry. This involves dentists, with different skillsets, working together to provide the best possible care or advice when it comes to treating a patient. A recommendation might be made that includes collaboration with another colleague, or to work alongside your own dentist, to help ensure that you have access to the most appropriate care for your individual needs.

Guarantees

Every effort is made to ensure dental treatments succeed, but unfortunately no treatment can last forever. It is important to factor in that treatments delivered to you will need to be replaced at some point at a cost to yourself. To give some piece of mind, you will be offered individual guarantees based on the treatment you have received and your particular risk profile. In order to maintain any guarantees, you will need to take care, responsibility and ownership of the treatment carried out and follow any aftercare recommendations. This will include basics, such as rigorous oral hygiene measures and diet control, alongside attending review appointments or wearing protective bite guards.
