Refer & Restore
Expanding Your Scope of Practise
Surgery
You may be keen to get into the surgical aspect of dental implantology at some point, or you might just want to grow your scope of practice by restoring implants; refer and restore is a great way to enter the realm of dental implant therapy in a progressive and supportive manner. The journey starts when you identify patients that require straightforward implant therapy. This allows for a case based discussion over the treatment plan and helps build an awareness of the specifics of each case. The patient undergoes the surgery and is referred back when they are ready for the restorative phase.
Restoration
Prior to the restorative phase, a debrief from the surgery will take place and a plan of action for the restorative phase laid out. This includes a treatment strategy regarding the need for provisionalisation, restoration design and material choice. Additional support is available throughout the process so that you feel confident in providing the treatment to a high standard. Before the refer and restore process begins, an opportunity for study club sessions, 1 to 1 teaching and the opportunity to shadow restorative sessions would be available to help develop knowledge of the procedures and ensure comfort when providing the restorative phase.
